About Us
This platform focuses on analyses and assessments of developments in the Western Balkans. The failure of Western actors to react in the 1990s led, among other things, to the genocide in Srebrenica. Wrong basic assumptions, but above all, momentous appeasement led to a misguided policy that did nothing to counter the years of ethnic cleansing, expulsions, and murders of innocent civilians as well the tens of thousands of rapes. The so-called international community did not react until the genocide of more than 8300 Muslim boys and men in Srebrenica became a reality.
Analyzing the contexts, remembering the historical events, and putting them into perspective is essential for a robust peace and democratization policy in the Balkans. The complex interrelationships and interdependencies require scrutiny – which often falls short in everyday political life and public discourse. We want to make the voices of analysts and from the ranks of civil society of the victims more visible and audible so that the failures of the 1990s are not to be repeated.
